For those of you unfamiliar with the fun video game Rocket League, it is a football game where the teams consist of cars that battle against each other to score goals. The cars can be customised with decals, paint jobs, wheels, and engine sounds. The game is a perfect blend of football and car-based dynamics that defy the laws of physics.
In addition to the game-specific cars such as the Octane, X-Devil, Breakout and Merc, the game has seen multiple additions of real life cars or those from pop culture as part of DLCs (downloadable content) and bundles unlocked through challenges. Now, Rocket League has just added another mean machine to its stack of boost-propelled football-smacking cars and here are our top 10 picks:
The latest addition to the game comes in the form of a bundle that costs 2,000 in-game credits. It is available until April 27 and comes with the game’s take on the car, two sets of STO wheels, an STO player banner, two antennas, and an STO decal. For fans of the game who are also car buffs, this is one must-have car in the game.
2016 Batmobile
The Zack Snyder-directed Batman v Superman movie saw two of DC’s greatest superheroes pitted against each other. The hype sparked a DLC pack which included the Batmobile used in the movie. Though not favoured by many pro players, this is more of a collector’s item that can be fun to play normal matches. However, this DLC is currently not available for sale.
DeLorean Time Machine
Another pop culture favourite, the DMC DeLorean, which is a collector’s item for fans of the Back To The Future franchise in real life, was made available to fans of the game as well. This, too, was offered as part of a DLC, and features some of the aspects from the movie. Though it does not hover, at a certain altitude, the wheels rotate downward and shoot rays of propulsion. Great Scott!
1970 Dodge Charger R/T
This is an easily recognisable icon. Dom Toretto’s Charger from The Fast and The Furious movie was made available in 2017 as part of a DLC. Who knew that this muscle car could not just be used for a quarter-mile drag race but also to whack around footballs!
1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34
Another F&F favourite, this JDM classic was driven by Brian O’Connor in the movie. While the untimely passing of Paul Walker who played the character is still a heavy subject, this car evokes nostalgic memories from the initial days of the franchise.
Jurassic Jeep Wrangler
Who knew that a Wrangler was as good on the pitch as it is off-road. Based on the version used in the Jurassic Park series, the DLC included a T-Rex goal celebration. The SUV can be used for defending and is a reliable car to destroy opponent cars as well.
The Dark Knight Tumbler
Remember the Christopher Nolan-directed Dark Knight trilogy and the armoured vehicle used by Batman in the final chapter? While there’s no Bane in Rocket League, the tumbler is a quick and nifty car that can be used for quick touches and swift goals. The car was offered with the DC Super Heroes DLC pack.
Ford F-150 RLE
Ford’s potent pickup truck was offered in the in-game store for 1,500 credits. The F-150 made up for its lack of pace with sheer strength. It was launched as part of Ford’s involvement in the Rocket League ESports tournament that took place in January 2021.
McLaren 570S
Rocket League launched the McLaren 570S as part of the McLaren 570S Car Pack DLC. While it is no longer available, the ones lucky enough to get their hands on it can enjoy the pace of the sportscar in the game.
1989 Batmobile
Yup, we saved the best for last, another batmobile that was offered with the DC Super Heroes DLC pack. This vintage batmobile is based on the model used by Michael Keaton’s take on the black-caped crusader.
