This baby Chevy is well styled and reasonably priced. It’s also got a nice small, albeit noisy diesel mill to potter around town. 3. Chevrolet Spark

It’s tough to consider the Spark among entry level offerings these days with the likes of Hyundai Eon and Datsun Go around. Maruti has updated the Alto K10 as well. This keeps the Spark firmly in the fringes of the lot. You can though drive a hard bargain on it to the tune of Rs 63,000 on a bundled offer. That’s almost 18-20 percent knocked off the sticker price for a city runabout that is reasonably fun in town. For an entry-spec hatchback, it’s a huge price to save.

4. Maruti Alto K10

Don’t mistake this car for the new one. The new Alto K10 is yet to be launched and if you have been reading a lot about it recently, it’s because it is coming very soon. Maruti needs to clear stock of the outgoing car first and so you get a chunky Rs 60,000 off the sticker price which includes a sizeable cash discount and free insurance for the first year. The Alto K10 is fun but the new one is a major improvement. If you choose to wait, this discount may not be available for long. 6. Tata Indica Vista/Vista Tech

As far as forgotten hatchbacks go, the Vista is surely getting there. But the Vista has improved mechanicals, build and interior and offers space that cars a segment higher find it tough to match. 7. Ford Figo

As far as well built hatchbacks go, the Figo most definitely is one that Indians loved around 2010 when the car was a huge hit. But its dated looks didn’t do the Figo any favours as new cars entered the market, and soon, the once popular Figo started faring just about average.
