Journeys are incomplete without your best friends, especially the furry ones. However, long trips can be stressful for your pet. They require a lot of extra attention when it comes to long journeys in a car. With that in mind, here are the top 10 accessories for a smooth and hassle-free road trip with your four-legged friend.

Adjustable Ramps

Having this handy will make life a lot easier for you and your pet. Not only will it save you the hassle of picking up your buddy but also prevent putting unnecessary strain on its legs, especially if it is old or has weak limbs. An effortless beginning to a journey will result in less anxiety and stress for your pet.

Harness/Seat Belt

Safety comes first, both for you and your pet. A harness or a custom-made seat belt for your buddy will ensure complete safety throughout the journey. These harnesses are made of breathable material to avoid uneasiness during long trips.

Portable AC

Most pets face the heat (quite literally) on a long journey, especially in a car. Dogs, especially belonging to specific breeds, come with a natural blanket of fur and only release heat through panting. That said, the car’s stock AC may not be enough for them; an additional unit, however, may do the job.

Pet Water Bottle

These bottles are specifically designed for your beloved pets. They come with a squeezable body so you can squeeze out the water into a wide mouth that acts as a makeshift bowl, making it easier for your pet to lap up all the H2O it needs to stay hydrated.

Seat Booster/Car Bed

Although car seats are designed for passenger safety, they can still get uncomfortable for us over the course of a long road trip. So you now know that these may get a little too agonizing for your pooch. Therefore, a nice booster seat for your small buddy or a rear-seat bed (if your pet is of generous proportions) will make the trip much more comfortable.

Portable Vacuum Cleaner

One of the biggest problems of being a pet owner is the mess that shedding can lead to. All that fur can stick to the seat upholstery and irritate other passengers. To avoid this, you can purchase a portable vacuum cleaner to clean up the seats after the journey. Alternatively, you can also buy a waterproof seat cover made especially for your pet. The waterproof feature is all the more helpful with pets who tend to get too excited.

Calming Treats

Most animals take some time to adjust to a car, considering it is unfamiliar territory for them. However, treats specifically made to reduce anxiety can help with the process. But, please check with your vet and make sure it is okay to serve these treats to your pet.

Spill-proof Bowls

All pet parents know the mess their furry friends can create during a meal or when drinking water. I can swear by it. My dog dips her snout all the way into the bowl, spilling all the water out. And that’s precisely why spill-proof bowls are there. These avert spillage altogether (or reduce the mess to a bare minimum), making things easier when travelling with your pet.

Pet First-aid Kit

You can consult with your vet and make a first-aid kit for your pet. These could include emergency supplies and extra doses of any medication that your pet may be on.

Crate/Cage

In case your trip involves transporting your pet to another location, a cage or crate will come in pretty handy. This will also be extremely useful if your trip requires air travel.

Most of these products are available on online shopping portals or at your nearest pet shop. For medication and food, you can check with your veterinarian and get their approval on what can be used.

Happy road-tripping with your furry baby.
