Bajaj Pulsar NS 200
Launched in February 2017, Bajaj has managed to pack in quite a few goodies like a six-speed gearbox, liquid-cooling and ByBre brakes in the NS 200 at an asking price of Rs 97,715 (ex-showroom Delhi). There is also an ABS-equipped version available for Rs 109,715 (ex-showroom Delhi). It is one of the most powerful 200s on offer in the market, producing 23.5PS of power and 18.3Nm of torque. To top that all off, it is also quite efficient, returning 39.7kmpl on the highway. It is also the more recommended of the lot if you aim at charging into corners and experience great straight line capabilities while still being able to run your daily chores with ease. Also, the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 offers good stopping power and is also well balanced ergonomically, making it an efficient all-rounder to take on the city, the highways as well the twisties.
TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi
Both, the TVS RTR 200 Fi and Carb versions, are very similar to each other when it comes to riding dynamics. And even though both are suited to handle city duties a lot better than gulping down miles, they do have a very different set of skills when it comes to performance and fuel efficiency.
The Fi variant lacks the grunt that the carb version offers but makes up for it with better efficiency figures, returning 44.6kmpl on the highway. At 21PS, the TVS Apache RTR Fi is 1PS more powerful than the carb version, whereas the 18.1Nm of peak torque is the same. While the Fi version of the RTR 200 might feel like a let down on the performance front, it clearly makes up for it with better fuel efficiency.
Bajaj Pulsar NS 160
The Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 is available for Rs 78,368 (ex-showroom Delhi), and is the latest bike in the 160cc segment. Our tests proved that the NS 160 is meant for riders looking to have fun. It is easily one of the most engaging bikes we have ridden. Its handling takes some time to get used to since it feels very sharp, but once past that, it is a hoot to ride. It is also the most refined Pulsar we have ridden. The 160.3cc, oil-cooled motor producing 15.5PS and 14.6 Nm of torque, may not make the Pulsar as strong as its rival, the Honda Hornet when it comes to acceleration figures, it is definitely the sportier one. Moreover, a fuel efficiency of 48kmpl on the highway makes the deal all the sweeter.
Hero Glamour Fi
Launched in April this year, the 2017 Hero Glamour Fi proved to be a potent commuter with handsome looks, a peppy 125cc engine, and comfortable and confidence-inspiring ride quality in city conditions. The fuel-injection isn’t tuned well enough though, and the bike jitters at low speeds. Also, the price of Rs 69,177 (ex-showroom Pune) is a bit too high for a 125cc motorcycle. But that aside, it has proved to be the most fuel-efficient bike we have tested this year, returning 58.3kmpl on the highway.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi ABS
Suzuki launched the Gixxer SF Fi ABS in August 2017 for Rs 99,312 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 3,813 more than the carburetted version. That said, the Fi variant is a lot smoother and responsive, with the biggest gain being fuel efficiency. This price difference isn’t much, considering that the Fi version returns 62.47kmpl on the highways, which is astounding and should help negate that difference in the long run. The 155cc air-cooled motor that produces 14.8PS of power and 14Nm of peak torque also feels a lot more refined with the fuel-injection system on-board.
