The premium motorcycle segment in India has witnessed a lot of action this year. Manufacturers not only brought forth their entry-level options, but also didn’t shy away from launching their flagship models. While the sales numbers in April 2021 were impressive, they took a serious hit in May primarily due to the restrictions with the ongoing pandemic. Here are the sales figures of the top five premium bikes in May:
Model |
Units Sold |
Triumph Trident 660 |
36 |
Triumph Bonneville T120 |
19 |
Triumph Street Triple R |
18 |
Honda CBR650R |
13 |
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R |
12 |
Clearly, Triumph Motorcycles takes the cake here, outselling the Japanese brands. The Triumph Trident 660 topped the sales chart in May, but the British marque’s most affordable bike saw a staggering 72 percent drop in sales, compared to April 2021. Triumph has ticked all the right boxes in terms of the pricing and versatility of this neo-retro roadster, so we expect sales to pick up in the coming months.
Closely following the Trident are the Triumph Bonneville T120 and the Street Triple R, selling under 20 units each, however, the Bonnie saw a respectable 31 percent spike in sales compared to April.
Surprisingly, the Honda CBR650R too raked in better sales comparatively. Despite the Japanese in-line four sports tourer’s price tag of Rs 8.88 lakh (ex-showroom), it continues to be the most affordable in-line four motorcycle in the country.
Kawasaki has nailed the pricing of its litre-class supersports, undercutting even the likes of the Ducati Panigale V2. The heavily updated Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R instantly became a hit and surprisingly managed to outsell the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa too!
The 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa was topping the headlines after all 101 units were booked in a mere 24 hours. However, Suzuki managed to sell only 11 units last month but we expect a spike in the coming months. The Kawasaki Z900 saw the most drastic drop in sales, from 75 units in April to six in May.
