This year, we saw many cars entering the Indian market. Some were international products like the Tucson, which made their comeback, whereas others were India-specific products, like the Vitara Brezza, which stormed the market and made a place for themselves. As much as we can foresee, a similar script seems to be written for next year as well. Here is a list of all the crossovers which are coming to the Indian market in 2017 and which will not be heavy on the pocket.
1. Tata Hexa
Launch – January 18
Expected Price – Rs 14 lakh
A lot has been said about the Tata Hexa in 2016 alone. The new flagship from Tata has been unveiled, driven and booked by customers. The only thing left now is for Tata to reveal the prices for the Hexa on January 18, which we expect will be in the vicinity of Rs 14 lakh. The Hexa features a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine which, apart from the base trim, comes in the Varicor400 tune. This engine is the same one that does duty in the Tata Safari Storme. In the Varicor400 tune, this mill produces 156PS of power and 400Nm of torque. The power is delivered to the wheels via a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. A 4x2 drivetrain is standard for both the transmissions, but only the manual will be offered with 4x4 drive. The 4x4 automatic is also ready, but won't be launched on January 18. 2. Renault Kaptur
Launch – Mid 2017
Expected Price – Rs 16 lakh
The Renault Kaptur is an upcoming SUV crossover which made its debut in Russia in April 2016. This new vehicle from Renault will be positioned above the Duster and will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 in the Indian market. To drive the Kaptur in India, we expect Renault to employ the 1.5-litre dCi diesel, producing 110PS, and the petrol engine is expected to be the 1.6-litre, producing 120PS – that is 16PS more than what it produces in the Duster. To know more about the Kaptur, check out its 2016 Sao Paulo unveiling.
3. Volkswagen Tiguan
Launch – Mid 2017
Expected Price – Rs 22 lakh
The premium crossover from Volkswagen, the Tiguan, was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and will rival the likes of the recently launched Hyundai Tucson. The Tiguan has the same platform as the Skoda Kodiaq. But, unlike the seven-seater Skoda, the Tiguan is a five-seater. As for the powertrains, it will most likely feature the Kodiaq's line-up of engines, primarily the 2.0-litre TDI engine, mated to a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox. 4. 2017 Honda CR-V
Launch – Mid to late 2017
Expected Price – Rs 24 lakh
The latest generation of the Honda CR-V broke cover at the Detroit Motor Show and has since been launched for the US market. It is scheduled to come to India in the third quarter of 2017. The CR-V, now in its fifth generation is based on the same platform as the 10th generation Civic. This new gen CR-V is 58mm longer, 35mm wider and 35mm higher. It also features a longer wheelbase by 40mm which should translate to more cabin space, especially kneeroom. It also comes with a new family of engines, a 2.4-litre Earth Dreams inline 4-cylinder engine making 184PS of max power and a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline four making 190PS of max power. The 1.5-litre unit adorns the premium trims where as the 2.4 i-VTEC is for the lower variants. When launched in India both engines could be on offer.
The CR-V also gets features similar to the recently launched Accord Hybrid like LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail lamps, powered tailgate, new dashboard and interiors, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The prices are expected to be between 32.0 and 37.0 lakh ex-showroom,Delhi. Read more about the 2017 Honda CR-Vhere.
5. Hyundai Tucson 4x4
Launch – First half of 2017
Expected Price – Rs 25 lakh
The Hyundai Tucson has been launched in the country with both a 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol engine, mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. As of now, the crossover is only available as a two-wheel drive, but the Tucson will be available with the option of an all-wheel drive soon. Though the AWD is expected to come with the diesel variants, Hyundai is considering equipping the petrol engine with it as well. This addition will make the Tucson an all-rounder, which will allow off-road enthusiasts to consider it as well.
These are some of the crossovers which will cost up to Rs 25 lakh and will come to India next year. We will soon bring out a list of upcoming crossovers that will be a little more expensive, but also a lot more capable. Stay tuned to Zigwheels for all the info on the upcoming cars of 2017.
