The first week of March was quite action-packed with a bunch of launches and unveilings giving us much to be excited about. We also got details of upcoming cars, both officially and unofficially (read: leaks). All said, there’s a lot to watch out for, so we’ve filtered through to get you the top picks. Here’s the best of this week’s news:
2021 Renault Triber Leak
Details of the updated Triber have been leaked ahead of an official announcement by Renault. The affordable people carrier will get dual-tone options for the first time. It will also come in a new brown shade, replacing the red, and a couple of feature updates including turn indicators on the ORVMs, steering-mounted controls, and height-adjustable driver’s seat. Nissan Magnite Turbo Pricier
Nissan should be content with the response the Magnite has received. The sub-4m SUV has garnered over 40,000 bookings since its launch in December 2020. Of those, over 6,500 have already been delivered. Nissan is operating at full capacity to reduce the waiting time of seven months. Get the full scoop here.
The Magnite has also received a price hike of Rs 30,000, but only its turbo-petrol variants. They now cost between Rs 7.29 lakh and Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The non-turbo variants remain unaffected, priced from Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 7.69 lakh (ex-showroom). Head here to know more.
Ford EcoSport SE Teased
Ford seems to have taken the dramatic route to tease the upcoming EcoSport SE. Using famous Bollywood taglines, the carmaker has confirmed it will do away with the tailgate-mounted spare wheel on the SE, replacing it with a puncture kit. It also looks like this new variant will get premium features such as an electric sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen running SYNC 3, and steering-mounted controls. Head here for all the details.
Skoda Kushaq Interior Sketches
As the Kushaq inches closer to its reveal date, Skoda’s feeding us bits to keep us excited. More recently, the carmaker revealed a sketch of the upcoming SUV’s interior. Much to everyone’s delight, especially ours, the design resembles that of its Vision IN concept showcased at Auto Expo 2020. Check out the sketches here.
Citroen C5 Aircross Launch Date
The C5 Aircross is likely to launch on April 7. Citroen has already started accepting pre-launch bookings for a token amount of Rs 50,000 with a free service package for bookings made on or before April 6. The arrival of the C5 Aircross will mark the return of the PSA Group after its tragic stint in India in the late 90s. Head here for more information.
Tata Nexon EV Delisted By Delhi Government
Tata has gotten into a controversial mess with the Delhi government. Its Nexon EV is no longer eligible for the Delhi government’s EV subsidy. This follows a bunch of complaints by disgruntled customers over its claimed range of 312km and its actual mileage of only around 200km. Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Revealed
Porsche has introduced its second all-electric model as part of its vision towards a sustainable future. The crossover is based on the first Porsche electric model, the Taycan sedan, in terms of design. It also comes loaded with features, chassis control systems, and driver assists. Launches
Lexus LC500h
Lexus has launched a limited edition of the LC500h inspired by airplanes at Rs 2.15 crore (ex-showroom), Rs 6 lakh more than the standard version. It’s been co-designed by air race pilot Yoshihide Muroya. The design is stealthier thanks to a bunch of carbon-fibre elements, including a rear spoiler inspired by an inverted aeroplane wing. The front grille and the 21-inch alloys are blacked out as well further adding to the look. Head here to check it out.
Tata Tiago XTA
Tata has launched the AMT variant of the Tiago’s XT trim at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This means that save for the XE trims, all others get an AMT option. The XTA costs Rs 50,000 more than the 5-speed manual XT variant. The transmission is mated to an 86PS/113Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine. Head here for more details
MINI Countryman
MINI has launched the facelifted Countryman SUV from Rs 39.50 lakh to Rs 43.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is now available in just two variants: Cooper S and Cooper S JCW Inspired. The SUV is now a petrol-only offering with the Cooper S Diesel discontinued. The updated model, which was revealed globally in mid-2020, costs Rs 1 lakh more than its predecessor.
