Toyota is going the Volkswagen way in terms of planning its model line-up. Like the Cross Polo, Toyota too will introduce a similar version of the Etios Liva hatchback called the Etios Cross. The car was first unveiled in Brazil in November 2013 and is going to be showcased at the Indian Auto Expo next month.
As can be seen in these pictures, The Etios Cross looks sportier than the Liva Hatchback. It has plastic cladding all around, the front bumper gets an integrated bumper guard and also new fog lamp housings. Other additions to the Cross on the outside are roof rails and new 10-spoke alloy wheels.
The Cross gets better appointed interiors too. The seats get adjustable head rests unlike the fixed ones on the Liva and it will also have all black seat fabric and chrome inserts on the dashboard.
The Cross should be available in both petrol and diesel form and we don’t expect any changes in the powertrain. The diesel will be the same 69PS 1.4-litre D4D engine and the petrol could get the 1.5-litre 90PS engine from the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo.
Expect premium positioning for the Cross but Toyota will be aware that if it prices the car too high, it might not find many takers, case in point the VW Cross Polo that retails at around the Rs 9 lakh mark.
This will be the fifth version in the Liva including two TRD Sportivo variants and two standard ones.
