For the extra premium, the Fortuner TRD Sportivo variant comes with a host of cosmetic updates. Changes include a new black garnish added to the twin slat chrome grille with an integrated TRD badge. It also comes with sportier front and rear bumpers as well as blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels instead of the standard variant’s 17-inch units. The fenders get a 10 year anniversary badge while the tailgate gets a new TRD logo. The Fortuner TRD Sportivo can only be had in a one colour - Pearl White with a contrasting black roof.

Changes on the inside are limited to a new black and maroon colour scheme. The stitching on the seats and steering wheel are finished in red for a more sportier ambience. As for features, the Fortuner TRD Sportivo comes with LED headlamps with DRLs, cruise control, a powered tailgate, steering-mounted audio controls and automatic climate control. It also packs drive modes, a coloured multi-info display, powered driver and passenger seat and a touchscreen infotainment system. Nope, you still don’t get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with the Fortuner.
Safety features include seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors and rear view camera. Under the hood, the Fortuner TRD Sportivo comes with the same 2.8-litre diesel engine that develops 177PS and 450Nm. It can be had with the 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive layout only.

Over the last ten years, the Fortuner has proved to be the most successful full-size SUV in the country despite having to face formidable rivals like the Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq, the Mahindra Alturas G4, Isuzu mu-X, and others. In fact, Toyota has sold close to 1,60,000 units of the Fortuner in India since launch. While the TRD Sportivo variant seems a bit overpriced for what is essentially a body kit, we expect die-hard Fortuner fans to lap up the new variant, which could give the SUV an unassailable lead over its rivals.
