After almost a decade, Toyota has finally given its popular MPV Innova its first major upgrade. Say hello to the new Innova Crysta. The Japanese car maker announced the prices of the new offering last week but launched it today at a formal launch event in Mumbai. The new Innova Crysta has been launched at a starting price of Rs 13.83 lakh, while the fully-loaded trim costs Rs 20.77 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Even before its launch today, the Innova Crysta have been generating interest among Indian car buyers, already clocking up a two to two-and-a-half waiting period at dealerships.
In sync with Toyota’s new design language, the Innova Crysta gets a twin-slat chrome grille with projector type headlights on either side. Thanks to a bolder stance up front, the Innova Crysta now has better road presence and looks new age. At the back, the boomerang-shaped taillights give it a distinctive look. In profile though, the silhouette remains somewhat similar to its predecessor.
The Innova Crysta comes with two new engine options – a 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel units. The smaller capacity engine churns out 150PS of peak power which is an impressive 50PS more than its predecessor. Torque stands at 343Nm. This engine only comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The larger 2.8-litre Innova Crysta on the other hand, comes only with a 6-speed auto box. This unit pumps 174PS of power and 360Nm of torque.
Aside from the design and the engine, Toyota has also updated the insides of the car to make it look elegant and luxurious. The dashboard layout looks neat with different layers of plastic adding an element of style. Toyota has clearly spent a lot of time and thought in designing the interior and making it look premium. In terms of features the Innova Crysta gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, a 4.2-inch TFT instrumentation, climate control, leather upholstery and more. The Innova comes with three airbags and ABS as standard on the base variant while the top-end trim gets as many as seven. Toyota has also given three-point seat belts for all the seven passengers.
