Japanese manufacturer Toyota has launched the updated Camry Hybrid in the country. The sedan in available in a single variant, priced at Rs 31.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). That makes it a lakh more expensive compared to the older iteration.

What's extra for the added cost?

The exteriors feature next to no tell-tale signs of an update, save for LED fog lamps. The Hybrid's styling has remained unchanged with the update, featuring the same 15-spoke alloy wheels, LED headlamps with daytime running lamps, LED tail lamps and, of course, the blue halo around the Toyota insignia.

Step inside, and there's not much that's new to look at. There's certainly something new to listen to, though. The Camry Hybrid now features a 12-speaker audio system by JBL, and also gets an updated interface for the satellite navigation. Other additions include a 'Back Guide Monitor' (that's Toyota talk for adaptive reverse guidelines) and wireless smartphone charging. It retains its trademark features that include recline, audio and telephony controls on the rear armrest, a co-driver seat that can be electrically adjusted from the rear bench, ventilated seats, and a powered sunblind for the rear windshield.

The big update is in the safety department. The Camry Hybrid now features a total of nine airbags – that's two more than before. Toyota has also added a tyre pressure monitoring system, as well as 'Emergency Brake Signal' (a system that flashes hazard lamps under hard braking) to the Camry's feature list.

Mechanically, the Camry Hybrid remains unchanged, featuring a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor that develop 205PS of power put together. The Hybrid continues to be available with a sole automatic (CVT) transmission and returns an ARAI-certified 19.16kmpl. What's it like to drive the big Toyota? You can read our review here.

As far as competition goes, the only direct rival to the Camry Hybrid is the Honda Accord Hybrid, that's priced a tad optimistically at Rs 37 lakh (ex-showroom). Here's how the two Japs stack against each other on paper.
