Toyota has voluntarily recalled 9,498 units of the recently launched Urban Cruiser.
Units manufactured between July 28, 2020 and February 11, 2021, are said to be affected.
Authorised Toyota service centers will contact owners, check and replace the module without any extra charges.
Toyota India has recalled 9,498 units of the Urban Cruiser due to a possible driver side airbag module issue. Vehicles manufactured from July 28, 2020, to February 11, 2021, are said to have been affected.
Toyota’s authorised service centers will contact owners of the affected vehicles for inspection. If the said part is faulty, Toyota will replace it at no cost. The Urban Cruiser is simply a Vitara Brezza underneath, but the latter seems to be unaffected, as there's no word from Maruti Suzuki regarding this issue.
A recall from a well-reputed carmaker might sound disappointing, but it's good to see Toyota taking this step to avoid any untoward incidents.
On the safety front, Toyota offers the Urban Cruiser with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, front seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera. Talking about the Global NCAP rating, the SUV hasn't yet been tested, but the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza fared good with 4 out of 5 stars.
The Urban Cruiser comes equipped with a sole 1.5-litre petrol engine that chucks out 105PS of push and 138Nm of twist. Transmission options include a standard 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed torque converter. It gets a claimed efficiency of 17.03kmpl on the manual, whereas the automatic offers a mileage of 18.76kmpl thanks to its mild-hybrid tech.
Toyota retails the Urban Cruiser between Rs 8.50 lakh and Rs 11.35 lakh (ex-showroom). It fights it out with the Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
