Toyota has revealed the prices for its upcoming Yaris sedan ahead of its launch. We were told that the car would be priced at a premium over the City, but luckily that premium is not too much. Prices for the Toyota Yaris start from Rs 8.75 lakh, which is roughly Rs 3500 more than the Honda City. The top-end automatic variant of the Yaris, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 14 lakh, which is Rs 37,000 more than the City's top-spec variant (all prices ex-showroom India). Toyota will be launching the Yaris next month, though a date has not been confirmed. Here’s a variant-wise break up of the prices of all three cars.

The Toyota Yaris is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine which makes 107PS of power and 140Nm of torque. But, it is still 20PS shy of the City’s power output. The Yaris comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 7-speed CVT right from the base-spec variant. The City, on the other hand, gets a 5-speed gearbox as standard and the CVT is available only in the top three variants. Claimed efficiency for the Yaris is 17.8kmpl for the CVT-equipped variant and 17.1kmpl for the manual. The Ciaz, with its 1.4-litre engine, leads the efficiency battle with 20.73kmpl for the MT and 19.12kmpl for the AT.
In terms of features, the Yaris comes pretty loaded right from the base variant. It boasts of features like 7 airbags (driver+passenger+driver knee+side+curtain), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), keyless entry, disc brakes on all 4 wheels, central locking, power windows, tilt-adjustable steering, audio system with CD, MP3, Aux-in, Bluetooth connectivity, 4 speakers, and 60:40 rear split seats.
In the top-spec variant, the Yaris packs features such as front parking sensors, 15-inch alloys, tyre pressure monitoring system, power-adjustable driver’s seat, gesture-controlled infotainment system and roof-mounted air circulation vents. The Ciaz, on the other hand, gets all the basic features but just 2 airbags, ABS and ISOFIX in safety. Its forte remains the cabin space on offer which is unrivaled in the segment. The Honda City, however, edges just ahead here with the all important sunroof, telescopic adjustable steering and LED headlamps.
Bookings for the Yaris are underway for an amount of Rs 50,000. The car is also available for test drives across most Toyota showrooms in the country. We have driven the Yaris and you can check out the review here.
