After unveiling it at the 2017 India Bike Week, Triumph Motorcycles is set to launch the Bonneville Speedmaster tomorrow. Although the British bikemaker has been tight-lipped about the pricing, we're expecting it to be priced around Rs 10-10.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Along with the Speedmaster, the British company will also launch the 2018 Tiger 800 and Tiger 1200 this year.
In terms of design, the Speedmaster is based on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber, although with some unique differences like swept back handlebars, forward set footpegs and two seats with a pillion backrest. In addition to this, the cruiser also gets a full-LED headlight with DRLs and an LED tail light as well. Its retro single-pod instrument cluster gets an analogue speedometer, while digital readouts display the odometer, fuel range and current riding mode.
Powering the Speedmaster is the same 1200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that is seen on the Bonneville Bobber and the T120. This high-torque mill produces 77PS of power at 6,100rpm and 106Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The riding experience is further aided by two riding modes - Road and Rain. Switchable traction control, cruise control and ABS come as standard.
The Bonneville Speedmaster and the Bonneville Bobber share their chassis with each other. However, the Speedmaster's rear subframe is a bit longer to accommodate the pillion seat. Suspension duties are taken care of by KYB 41mm telescopic forks at the front with 90mm of travel and a KYB monoshock unit at the rear with 73.3mm of rear wheel travel. The bike comes to a halt using twin Brembo 310mm discs at the front and a 255mm disc at the rear.
Once launched, it will go up against the Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom, which is priced at Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom). We recently got a chance to ride the Speedmaster in sunny California. To know more about the bike, read our first ride review here.
