According to a report on Visordown.com, Triumph Motorcycles has dropped its plans of producing 250cc motorcycles. Triumph was planning to manufacture the 250cc motorcycles at its Indian manufacturing plant in Narsapur on the outskirts of Bangalore. Back in 2013, Triumph had even released a concept sketch of a full-faired bike featuring a sporty design and said that the bike would be powered by a single-cylinder 250cc engine.
While a naked bike designed on the lines of the Street Triple was spotted testing in late 2013 which gave rise to speculation that the bikes would be launched by 2015. It was expected that Triumph will develop two bikes based on the new single-cylinder, 250cc engine – a naked and a full faired bike. But Paul Stroud, Triumph's director of sales and marketing, announced that they have kept the developments of the Triumph 250cc bikes on hold which means the bike wouldn’t be launched in 2015 as expected. The Triumph 250cc bikes were specifically developed for emerging markets like Brazil and India. In the Indian context, the Triumph 250cc motorcycles would have helped the British manufacturer rake in the volumes as currently its portfolio in India starts above the Rs 5 lakh mark. Paul Stroud, Triumph's director of sales and marketing, said: “Following a review we have placed the 250cc bike project on hold for strategic reasons relating to its specific segment. During an exciting period for the brand, Triumph continues to invest and expand its model line-up and enter new markets, as demonstrated with our successful launches into Brazil and India. Through our expanding market presence and model offer we will continue to evolve our product range to reinforce our position as a premium motorcycle manufacturer and answer the requirements and demands of a global motorcycle audience with exciting and innovative products.”
