Only four models from Triumph’s modern classic range will be offered here
  • Triumph updated a few members of the Bonneville family to BS6 norms last year.
  • Lack of interest in niche products has led Triumph to stop bringing in the units.
  • Expect many more exciting bikes from Triumph in the months to come.
  • Triumph has tasted great success with the Bonneville series of bikes. The Street Twin has been the entry-point into the brand while models like the Bonneville T100 and the Bonneville T120 provide an authentic British twin experience. However, some of its more singular-minded models, like the Thruxton R and the Bonneville Bobber, have struggled to make a serious impact in the market. The dwindling sales of these models has resulted in Triumph India streamlining the Bonneville family in India.

Apart from the Thruxton R and Bonneville Bobber, the Speed Twin, Street Scrambler and Scrambler 1200 XC too will no longer be available on sale. These five models were rather focused products in comparison to the other four Bonnies that are still on sale.

We get that the Thruxton R was quite a serious cafe racer and the Bonneville Bobber was only great for city jaunts and hence, not exactly practical. The surprising bit is the culling of the scrambler models, especially the 1200. When we rode the Scrambler 1200 XC in 2019, we found it to be highly capable on as well as off road, and, in some ways, a better tourer than the Tiger 800 (Triumph’s previous-gen middleweight ADV). Plus, it managed to undercut the Tiger by a huge price margin while offering better kit.

While this news feels like a bit of a downer, Triumph has loads of new exciting products on the horizon, starting with the Speed Triple 1200 RS. It will be launched tomorrow at an expected price of around Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom India). The more enticing product launch from Triumph will be the Trident 660. This mid-displacement naked will be Triumph’s most affordable bike in India, even undercutting the Street Twin by a small margin.
