According to recent import data, Triumph Motorcycles India has imported one unit of the Speed Triple 1050R for homologation purpose with the ARAI.

This means that Triumph India may be planning to launch the Speed Triple R in India in the coming months, at least by early 2016.

The Triumph Speed Triple R is the faster and more powerful version of the standard Speed Triple. The engine is the same 1050cc triple that powers the Speed Triple, but it’s in a different state of tune, making 135PS of power and 111Nm of peak torque, which, Triumph says, offers lots more thrust on tap lower down the rev range.

There’s different equipment on the Speed Triple R too, compared to the Speed Triple. Suspension system is now from Ohlins, compared to the Showa units on the standard Speed Triple. The NIX30 fork and TTX36 shock on the Triumph Speed Triple R have separate rebound and compression damping functions for more precise damping control. The braking system on the R gets Brembo Monobloc callipers and is said to offer 5 per cent more stopping power than the standard Speed Triple. Tyres are also different on the R, with grippier Pirellis for better performance and road grip.

All these however, will come at a price. The current Triumph Speed Triple retails for Rs 11.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Speed Triple R will cost at least a lakh or two more than the standard Speed Triple. Once launched, the Speed Triple R will compete against the likes of the Kawasaki Z1000, Yamaha FZ1, Suzuki  GSX-S1000 and the Honda CB1000R.
