TVS Racing had a consistent showing in the 250cc class with a top 5 finish by Vorapong Malahuan at the opening round of the 2020 Asia Road Racing Championship. However, the race weekend wasn’t all smooth sailing as many teams including Idemitsu Honda Racing India did not participate due to the threat of COVID-19. TVS Racing is currently the only Indian team in the 250cc grid.
The race weekend started with Malahuan as the highest placed TVS rider, starting 8th on the grid, followed by teammates Jagan Lumar and KY Ahmed lining up 13th and 14th respectively. Vorapong Malahuan carried the consistent momentum into Race 1 and finished sixth in the end, with Jagan Kumar finishing 12th and KY Ahmed in 15th position.
Vorapong went one better in the second and final race of the weekend with a 5th place finish and only four-tenths off grabbing 4th spot in the end. Indian riders Jagan Kumar and KY Ahmed finished 11th and 12th respectively.
This run of consistency has left Vorapong Malahuan with a strong opening account for TVS Racing in the rider’s championship in sixth place. The Thailand rider is only five points away from sneaking into the top five. Jagan Kumar and KY Ahmed make up the lower half of the riders, standing in 13th and 14th places. Heading into the constructors table, TVS Racing are 5th overall, only 1 point away from ONEXOX TKKR SAG Racing Team. Can TVS Racing continue its consistent momentum over the season? Only time will tell as the next stop will be at the Bend Motorsports Park, Australia, from May 7 to May 10.
