Royal Enfield is a name that holds a special place in the hearts of Indian motorcyclists and every new product from this brand generates a lot of curiosity among them. Ever since the launch of the Royal Enfield Himalayan in early 2016, the company has been quiet. It has been working hard on what could be its fastest and the most technologically advanced motorcycle yet. The iconic Indian bikemaker is developing a parallel-twin motorcycle that has attracted a lot of speculation on when we could finally see the production version. It is highly likely that Royal Enfield will launch this new parallel-twin cylinder motorcycle at the biggest motorcycle show in the world at the 2017 edition of EICMA in Milan, Italy. The unveil at EICMA makes great sense as the new twin-cylinder motorcycle is a global product from Royal Enfield and what better place than EICMA to get the attention of two-wheeler enthusiasts from all over the world.
The engine is likely to be a parallel-twin motor with a displacement between 600-750cc and power figures of around 45PS and 60Nm of peak torque. The engine is expected to be mated to a 5-speed gearbox. It is also rumoured that the engine will have a 270-degree firing order for a good balance between refinement and power delivery. The engine will also get fuel-injection system to make the bike compatible to Euro 4 emission norms.
The twin-downtube cradle frame is similar to the Royal Enfield Continental GT but will be stiffened up and we hope the handling dynamics of the bike are likeable. Braking will be done by disc brakes on both ends and ABS will be standard fitment. From the test mules, we can figure out that the upcoming model will be offered in two avatars - streetbike and cafe racer. If Royal Enfield does unveil the new twin-cylinder motorcycle at EICMA, we can expect it to be launched by late 2017 or early 2018 before the Auto Expo in India. Once launched, the bike will rival the likes of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Triumph Street Twin.
