Strengthening its dealer network in India further, UM Motorcycles has now entered Kerala with its first dealership in the land of spices. Christened Backwater UM, it is the American brand's thirteenth showroom in the country and is located in Edappally North, one of the rather well developed areas of Kochi. The company claims to provide best-in-class pre- and post-sales service through this new facility which is integrated with parts and servicing facilities as well.
To conduct its operations in the country, UM Motorcycles formed a new company, UML, in association with Indian electric vehicle manufacturer - Lohia Auto. Thanks to the local manufacturing facility of Lohia Auto in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, UM has been able to aggressively price its products. Till now, UML has launched two cruiser motorcycles in India, the Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sport S, priced at Rs 1.72 lakh and Rs 1.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Kochi) respectively.
Commenting on the inauguration of the new dealership, Rajeev Mishra, CEO of UML, said, "We are delighted to open our first dealership in the state of Kerala. South India contributes to a major share of the Indian two-wheeler market in the country. Hence, this is the first of numerous dealerships we plan to open in this region. The opening of this dealership is in line with our roadmap to have a pan-India presence by the end of 2017. We are confident that we shall get a good response from motorcycle enthusiasts in Cochin and surrounding areas. Our unique form of motorcycling is centred around the idea of a perfect connect between the rider, his bike and the terrain he rides through. We call this Pure Motorcycling. We have been working very hard to create motorcycles that engage deeply and are a pleasure to ride in real world riding conditions and speed. With a perfect combination of aesthetics, dynamism and perfect road handling, our UM products provide a truly unmatched biking experience. This dealership will house our flagship products like Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports S.”
Both the Renegade Commando and Sport S cruisers are based on the same platform that is powered by a 280cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes around 25PS of maximum power at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 21.8Nm at 7,000 rpm. Along with a comfortable design, especially set for long rides, both the bikes offer interesting features like USB charging port, storage area below the rear seat, a wide rear tyre and smooth six-speed synchromesh gearbox with overdrive for quieter running and even better efficiency on open roads.
Apart from these two interesting models, UM is also going to launch another cruiser, based on the same platform, this year. The already unveiled Renegade Classic will also get a fuel injection system and will go on top of the brand’s portfolio in India.
