UM Motorcycles India has got off to a great start in the Indian market. The American motorcycle brand has announced that it has received bookings for over 1,000 units for the Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sports S within just two months of its debut in India. UM Motorcycles India made their foray into the Indian market at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year.
The Renegade Commando is priced at Rs 1.59 lakhs, the Sport S will cost Rs 1.49 lakhs and the Renegade Classic will be the most expensive of the lot at Rs 1.69 lakh (all ex-showroom, New Delhi). All three bikes are powered by the same 278cc, air-cooled single cylinder engine producing 25PS of power and 22Nm of torque. UM Motorcycles is the Indian arm of American manufacturer UM International LLC, and has a 50:50 partnership with Lohia Auto, who is manufacturing the bikes at its Uttarakhand plant.
The manufacturer is targeting buyers wanting a 250-300cc motorcycles that are styled to look like a cruiser and are comfortable for long rides and is offering the bike with a six speed transmission, wide, cruiser-like handlebars and footboards instead of footpegs. The manufacturer is thus hoping to eat into Royal Enfield's sales with the Commando and Sport S apart from competing with bikes like the KTM 200/390 Duke, Benelli TNT 25 and Mahindra Mojo. While acceleration figures have not been revealed, UM is claiming a top speed of 125kmph for the two bikes.
