UM Motorcycles, the American two-wheeler manufacturer, is all set to expand its lineup in in India. This time, it is aiming at the adventure touring segment.
During our recent interaction with the management from UM Motorcycles we have come to learn that the company has been working on an all new engine which will have a displacement of 350-400cc. It remains to be seen whether the new liquid-cooled engine would be a single-cylinder or a V-Twin.
The company has also confirmed that new powerplant will make its way to the Indian market via an all-new product. This product will also mark the company’s entry into the entry level adventure segment.
Senior UM officials pointed out that the adventure motorcycle will be designed with a primary focus on tackling the dirt with aggression. In order to efficiently handle off-road duties, the bike will feature high ground clearance, long-travel suspension and spoked wheels with dual-purpose tyres that are filled with a puncture sealant.
Considering the competitive pricing that the company has been able to offer on the existing Renegade series manufactured in India, expect the new adventure motorcycle to be a value for money proposition as well. If launched with a single-cylinder mill, we expect the bike to be priced at around Rs 2.5-2.8 lakh. The pricing is expected to go up to around Rs 3.5 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi) if the bike comes with a V-twin powerplant.
The company is currently aiming at launching the new adventure motorcycle in the next six months, which could probably mean a 2018 Auto Expo debut. Once launched, it will rival the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure.
