Select dealerships are accepting unofficial bookings for a token amount of Rs 10,000.
Expect similar dimensions to the Skoda Kushaq since the two are based on the VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform.
Design highlights include a mini-Tiguan-like front end, chrome accents and connected LED tail lights.
Features will include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, connected car tech and a digital drivers display.
Powering the SUV will be 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines with manual and automatic transmission options.
Likely to be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
As we get closer to the Taigun’s launch, select Volkswagen dealerships have begun accepting unofficial bookings for the compact SUV. The SUV can be booked for a token amount of Rs 10,000, and is likely to go on sale around August 2021.
The Taigun is the second SUV alongside its cousin the Skoda Kushaq to be based on the VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform. It looks quite similar to the concept showcased at Auto Expo 2020, with a mini-Tiguan-like front end, chrome inserts, and connected LED tail lights. There’s also a GT Line which will add sportier enhancements.
Heading inside, there are some bits borrowed from the Skoda Kushaq, like the 10.1-inch infotainment system, touch-based climate controls, and gear lever. But VW has positioned them in a different way, like the infotainment system being integrated into the dashboard instead of the Kushaq’s floating unit. The Taigun also has a digital driver’s display, something that's not present in the Kushaq.
There will be features galore for the Taigun such as connected car tech, a single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, climate control, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and electronic stability program.
Under the hood of the Taigun will be two petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO. The former makes 115PS/175Nm, whereas the latter will deliver 150PS/ 250Nm. Both engines will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, with the 1.0-litre unit also having a 6-speed automatic option. The 1.5-litre engine, can also be specced with a 7-speed DSG (dual clutch automatic).
Expect the Volkswagen Taigun to be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). Aside from the Skoda Kushaq, it will also rival the Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos.
