Upcoming five new Bajaj motorcycles revealed

1, Bajaj Pulsar 200SS

The Bajaj Pulsar 200SS has to be among the most keenly awaited bikes to be launched in 2015. Ever since images of the motorcycles being tested with a camouflage emerged on internet, two-wheeler enthusiasts have been following its development ardently. Bajaj has been very secretive about the details regarding the motorcycle on the Indian front despite the fact that it showcased the motorcycle in various other international markets like Indonesia and Turkey.

ZigWheels has learnt from its sources that Bajaj Auto is all-set to launch the Pulsar 200SS in India and expect the bike to be launched officially by last week of March or early April 2015. The Bajaj Pulsar 200SS (Super Sport) essentially is the fully-faired version of the Pulsar 200NS which has been on sale in India for the past few years. The design of the bike will be similar to the Pulsar 400SS that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The styling of the bike should appeal to the youngsters who have a soft spot for super-sports style motorcycles. The Bajaj Pulsar 200SS will be the first full-faired motorcycle to be launched by the Chakan based motorcycle manufacturer as the Pulsar 220 had a quarter-fairing. It is speculated that the Bajaj Pulsar 200SS would retail for around Rs 1.2 lakh.

2, Bajaj Pulsar 150NS

Bajaj will be betting big on the new Pulsar 150NS to revive its fortune in the 150cc segment which has been dominated by the Chakan based manufacturer. The Bajaj Pulsar 150NS will be powered by a 149.5cc, single-cylinder motor producing 17PS at 9,000rpm and peak torque of 13Nm at 7,500rpm. This means, the new Bajaj Pulsar 150NS generates 2PS and 0.5Nm of torque higher than its predecessor. The powerplant will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox and the engine will be equipped with 4-valves. The wheelbase of the Bajaj Pulsar 150NS has been hiked to 1,363mm and the bike tips the scale at 144kg which is identical to the bike it replaces. 

Talking about styling, the new Bajaj Pulsar 150NS will carry forward the same design language as seen on the Pulsar 200NS. The brute streetbike styling should enable it to standout among its rivals and also appeal to the youngsters. Switch gear and the part-analogue-part-digital instrument console have been carried forward from its 200cc sibling. The Bajaj Pulsar 150NS employs telescopic forks at front and a monoshock setup at the back. This makes the new motorcycle the second Pulsar offering after the 200NS to adopt a monoshock suspension.  Braking is done by a disc brake at front and drum brake at rear. We feel Bajaj could offer rear disc brakes as an optional extra like in the case of the Honda CB Trigger. Bajaj is renowned for their cut-throat pricing so we can expect the new Pulsar 150NS to carry a sticker price of around Rs 73,000.

3, Bajaj Pulsar 200AS

Even as Pulsar aficionados wait keenly for the upcoming full-faired Pulsar 200SS to get launched in our country a new variant of the 200cc offering has been spotted in Indonesia. Christened the Bajaj Pulsar 200AS, the AS stands for Adventure Sport. The Bajaj Pulsar 200AS is not an entirely new motorcycle and is based on the Pulsar 200NS. The Bajaj Pulsar 200AS sports a quarter fairing and projector lamps similar to the popular Pulsar 220 thereby signifying its touring DNA. 

Powering the bike will be the same 199cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor as seen on the standard 200NS. But it is expected that the engine will get fuel-injection so expect better throttle response. The powerplant will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Although, the bike has been christened Adventure Sport, suspension setup on the bike remains unchanged with telescopic front forks and monoshock setup at the back. Braking duties will be taken care of by disc brakes at front and rear while ABS might be offered as an option. If Bajaj does launch the Pulsar 200AS, it will be the third 200cc Pulsar offering in our two-wheeler market after the upcoming 200SS and 200NS. Given the fact that the Pulsar 220 still continues to clock decent sales figure, the Bajaj Pulsar 200AS does make sense in our market. With Bajaj being famous for its cutthroat pricing expect the Pulsar 200AS to be priced below Rs 1.3 lakh.

4, Bajaj Avenger

Bajaj is all-set to launch a new facelifted version of the Avenger cruiser in the Indian two-wheeler market. Rajiv Bajaj hinted that that the new Bajaj Avenger might be among the six new motorcycles that would be launched by the Chakan based two-wheeler manufacturer in the following months. The Bajaj Avenger has been a great cruiser options for buyers who don’t want to buy the conventional cruiser motorcycle in the form of the Royal Enfield motorcycles. But the bike has started to show its age and sales for the bike hasn’t been that great in the recent past and an update is the need of the hour for Bajaj Auto. 

While the new Bajaj Avenger will not be drastically different from the model it replaces on the cosmetic front but it will witness significant mechanical update. The new Bajaj Avenger will be powered by the 200cc motor sourced from the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS instead of the 220cc as found on the current offering. Although the 200cc motor is down on displacement, it churns out 23.5PS which is almost a 5PS gain over the 220cc mill. The new Bajaj Avenger might also feature the six-speed gearbox as seen on the Pulsar 200NS making it the first Bajaj Avenger offering to feature a six-speed transmission.

Other additions on the new Bajaj Avenger might be the addition of rear disc brakes given the jump in performance the cruiser would achieve owing to the powerful motor. Expect it to be launched in India by mid-2015 with a speculation pricing of Rs 85,000 in India. 

5, Bajaj Pulsar 150AS

The Bajaj Pulsar 150AS (Adventure Sport) similar to the Pulsar 200AS that was showcased at Indonesia recently was caught testing on the outskirts of Pune. This means that the next generation Pulsar 150cc offering will be offered in two variants. The Bajaj Pulsar 150AS isn’t an entirely new motorcycle and is based on the Pulsar 150NS. The Bajaj Pulsar 150AS sports a quarter fairing but isn’t clear whether it would feature a projector lamp similar to the Pulsar 200AS. 

No changes are expected on the mechanical front as the Bajaj Pulsar 150AS will be powered by the same powerplant as seen on the streetbike offering. Powering the bike will be a 149.5cc, single-cylinder motor producing 17PS at 9,000rpm and peak torque of 13Nm at 7,500rpm. The powerplant will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox and the engine will be equipped with 4-valves. The Bajaj Pulsar 150AS employs telescopic forks at front and a monoshock setup at the back. Braking is done by a disc brake at front and drum brake at rear. The new Pulsar 150AS is expected to carry a sticker price of around Rs 77,000. The Bajaj Pulsar 150AS will rival the Yamaha Fazer FI and the upcoming faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer in the Indian two-wheeler market.
