Maxi-scooters could be the next big thing in Indian biking culture. These scooters offer more space, more comfort and motorcycle rivalling performance. Here is a list of maxi-scooters you will see plying on our roads this year.
Honda Forza 300:
What is it?
It is Honda’s sporty maxi-scooter that it sells in the European markets. As the name suggests, the Forza 300 has a 300cc motor beneath that large, sporty bodywork.
Why is it exciting?
Despite its size, this scooter can hustle. Its 300cc liquid-cooled and fuel-injected single-cylinder motor delivers 25.1PS and 27.2Nm. Honda claims the Forza 300 can reach a top speed of 125kmph. And it has enough underseat storage space to hold two full-size helmets!
What will it cost?
Honda will most likely bring the Forza 300 via the CKD route. We expect it to be sold in the price range of Rs 2.5 to Rs 2.8 lakh. That is good value considering the features and performance on offer.
When is it coming?
Honda has already sold four units of the Forza 300 in India. They were Euro 4/BS6 compliant models brought in for customer feedback. However, Honda will launch the Euro 5/BS6 compliant Forza 300’s here. These are expected to reach our shores by the end of this year. Know more about the Honda Forza 300 here.
Aprilia SXR160:
What is it?
Aprilia’s upcoming maxi scooter is based on the SR 160 BS6 moto-scooter. It uses the SR’s powertrain and underpinnings but gets a larger maxi-scooter bodywork.
Why is it exciting?
Just look at it! The Italian styling works well and the SXR160 gets added features over the SR 160 like all-LED lighting and a digital instrument console. Also, the large windscreen and wider seat should make it comfortable over longer rides.
What will it cost?
We expect the SXR160 to be priced around the Rs 1.15 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh rupee bracket. That’s a Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 premium over the SR 160 BS6.
When is it coming?
Aprilia says bookings for the SXR160 will begin by August 2020. We expect the Italian maxi-scooter to be launched by the end of this year. Know more details about the Aprilia SXR160 here.

22Kymco X-Town 300i:

Like the Forza 300, the X-Town 300i is a full-size maxi scooter. Kymco is a Taiwanese scooter-maker who has partnered with Indian startup 22Motors and under the brand name 22Kymco, will sell scooters in India.
Why is it exciting?
This full-size maxi-scooter offers tons of storage space and has a 276cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motor delivering 24.5PS of power and 25Nm. It also gets large tyres, disc brakes all around and dual-channel ABS as standard.
What will it cost?
The 22Kymco X-Town 300i costs Rs 2.3 lakh (on-road Delhi). That is fantastic pricing made possible thanks to it being brought to India via the CKD route and localisation of components.
When is it coming?
While 22Kymco has disclosed the X-Town 300i’s pricing, you will not be able to get your hands on one soon since deliveries are slated for September this year. Read more about the X-Town 300i here.
