UM India seems to have something interesting brewing, particularly for adventure enthusiasts. The DSR Adventure has been spotted in Delhi, likely at a dealer event. Surprisingly, the bike isn’t camouflaged. It comes with proper ADV styling complete with a beak-like front fender, large tank extensions, engine cowl and an underseat exhaust. There’s a halogen headlamp along with LED indicators and tail lamp as well. One of the test mules feature crash guards at both the front and rear, hard-case panniers and a hard-case top box as well. However, these fitments are likely to be optional.
As expected from an adventure motorcycle, the bike comes with long-travel upside down forks up front and a rear monoshock. Interestingly, the motorcycle employs alloys shod with block pattern tyres instead of spoke wheels. This makes it more of a soft-roader than an out-and-out mudplugger like the Hero Xtreme 200. Brakes include a front disc with two-piston sliding callipers and a rear disc. Oddly though, the bike doesn’t seem to have even a single-channel ABS.
The engine appears to be an air-cooled, fuel-injected unit. The engine casing looks similar to the one in the UM Hypersport sold in international market. That motorcycle’s 223cc air-cooled motor pushes out 16.2PS at 7500rpm and 17.69Nm at 5500rpm, and comes mates to a 5-speed gearbox.
We expect this motorcycle to be priced between Rs 1.3 lakh - Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike is likely to be launched in early 2019. Its chief competitor is expected to be the upcoming Hero XPulse 200.
