Unlike the recent update that the Ford EcoSport received in India, this one will have heavy cosmetic changes

Aside from launching the compact sedan Figo Aspire and the hatchback Figo last year, Ford also gave its popular compact SUV EcoSport a mild update. While changes on the cosmetic front were limited to new signature DRLs, the EcoSport was brought in with the same engine options as the Figo siblings.

This update however is a minor one before the updated EcoSport makes its debut in 2017. Test mules of the new Ford EcoSport have making their rounds in South America hinting at its debut in the future.  Spy shots of the EcoSport have the front-end of the car entirely covered, which implies that the car has been heavily reworked. Of the cars sold by the Ford currently, the EcoSport is the only one to not follow its new global design language.

In this 2017 avatar, the Ford EcoSport will get redesigned headlights and a freshly moulded bumper. Keeping it in sync with the American car maker’s new design philosophy, the EcoSport will get a large chrome hexagonal grille reminiscent of the new Endeavour launched earlier this year. The compact SUV will also get a new design for its alloy wheels. Spy shots of the interiors show a revised steering wheel, a new centre console with colour display.

Specific details about the car’s powerplant and gearbox have still not surfaced. While a lot of details continue to remain sketchy, Ford surely will need to bring in the updated EcoSport to India eventually. Although the American car maker was the first to introduce a sub-4 metre SUV in India, it is now facing stiff competition from the likes of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and this update might just help in keeping its sales figures steady.
