Finnish electric startup Verge, formerly known as RMK Vehicle Corporation, had been doing the rounds on the internet for quite a while. It is particularly known for its hubless electric motorcycle, which has made quite the journey from the concept to production stage and was shown at the 2019 EICMA. Now, preorders of the electric superbike have commenced online for a token amount of 2,000 EUR. That’s approximately Rs 1.63 lakh. Verge had already revealed the target pricing of the electric bike as 24,990 EUR, which is about Rs 20.41 lakh. New photos have also emerged ahead of its possible launch.

You might think that’s a little too much money for an electric bike. But going by the spec sheet, we feel it commands a premium for all the right reasons. For starters, it retains the unique hubless rear wheel with an integrated motor from the concept version. The 80kW motor is capable of churning out a tyre-shredding 1000Nm at the wheel and a claimed 0-100kmph acceleration time of under 4 seconds. The top speed is limited to 180kmph.

What’s more, the motor is linked to a large lithium-ion battery pack which is claimed to offer an insane 300km range in the city and an equally impressive 200km out on the highway. Further adding to the convenience is a DC fast charging capability which can top up the battery in about 45-50 minutes. Using the onboard charger, the battery takes 4 hours to charge completely.

Verge has spared no expense even in the underpinnings department. The aluminium frame is linked to an Ohlins inverted front fork and an Ohlins rear monoshock. Brakes include dual front petal discs with radial calipers from Brembo up front. Since the rear wheel is hubless, the electric motor itself provides the necessary retardation. Pretty slick, right?

The Verge TS electric bike will be manufactured in Finland. It is likely that their initial plans of production might’ve gotten delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. If we’re lucky, we could see the bike emerging out of the production floors in a few months.
