Vespa is known in the Indian market for its retro styled scooters that set them apart from other automatic scooters. while also commanding a hefty price tag. But with the new 946 Emporio Armani, Vespa, upped the ante when it comes to premium pricing. The new Vespa 946 Emporio Edition carries a price tag of an eye-watering Rs 12,04,970 (ex-showroom, Pune) which easily makes it the most expensive scooter to be ever sold in the Indian two-wheeler market. It will be on sale exclusively at Piaggio owned Motoplex dealerships across the country and will be brought as a CBU in India.
So what makes it so expensive one might ask? Well, the base Vespa 946 itself has been priced at a premium and the Emporio Armani name is among the sought after names in the world of fashion, so it was obvious that the scooter wouldn’t be cheap by any means. The 946 Emporio Armani edition was launched last year to mark the 40th anniversary of the Giorgio Armani fashion house and the 130th anniversary of the Piaggio Group.
The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani gets a unique shade of grey which has been created by the fashion icon himself. There are green elements in the paint which is visible only under certain light conditions while the metal components feature a galvanising finish. The scooter sports Emporio Armani badging on the side covers and the iconic vulture on the headlight casing. The seat trim and hand grips, along with the optional leather bag are crafted from leather and are beautifully colour coordinated. It is also among the most exclusive scooters ever produced and is a "made to order product" and delivery time is around 3 month for one unit.
The 946 has to be one of the most radical scooters to be ever put to production and its retro-futuristic design gives an indication to the styling cues of future generation Vespas. The major design highlights of the 946 is its floating saddle which is hinged on a cast aluminium support, full LED headlamp and taillight and LCD instrumentation cluster. The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani is powered by a 125cc mill which is good enough for 11.9PS and 10.3Nm of torque.

Piaggio has loaded the 946 Emporio Armani with electronic goodies like disc brakes at the front and rear with ABS and ASR (anti-slip regulator) traction control system. So does a scooter for Rs 12.05 lakh make sense? And the answer is simple – NO. But given the prices that modern art command, the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani’s sticker price doesn’t look astounding as it wouldn’t feel parked in the drawing room of a mansion.
To celebrate the brand’s 70th anniversary, Vespa has launched a special edition of its existing Vespa VXL model. Along with the standard features of the scooter, the special edition gets draped in an unique 'Azzurro 70' shade. Other additions include tan brown leather pattern seats with contrast stitching and embossed ‘70th-Anniversary Edition’ logo. It also gets a fly screen, chrome rear carrier and perimeter guard, footstep, special glossy dust grey alloy wheels topped off with a chrome 'Vespa 70th Anniversary Edition' badge on the glove box. Powering it is a 150cc, 3-Valve motor churning out 11.6PS at 7,000rpm and 11.5Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. The 70th Anniversary Edition carries a sticker price of Rs 96,500 (ex-showroom Pune).
