Italian scooter icon, Vespa, has established itself well in the fiercely competitive Indian two-wheeler space. While other manufacturers are focussing on pleasing scooter buyers by offering aggressively priced two-wheeler options with a plethora of features and frugal motors, Vespa has a completely different approach. The Italian brand has positioned itself as a niche premium scooter brand with an unparalleled aspirational value. Vespa scooters are renowned for their style and are looked upon more as lifestyle products and despite the high asking price, Vespa manages to sell a few thousand units on a monthly basis. The Italian scooter brand is now planning to update its Indian scooter portfolio which is currently offered with two engine options - 125cc and 150cc. Expect the new Vespa scooter range to get mild cosmetic updates while maintaining the basic design silhouette which is among the highlights of the scooter. Vespa will also introduce a new array of colours for its scooter range to make them even more attractive. The instrument cluster is also likely to be redesigned and the new scooter might feature a semi-digital cluster as opposed to the analogue unit used currently. There will be no changes on the mechanical front. The Vespa SXL125 air-cooled motor that delivers 10.6PS at 7,500rpm and 10.6Nm at 6,000rpm is expected to be carried forward along with the Vespa SXL150 engine that produces 11.6PS at 7,000rpm and 11.5Nm at 5,500rpm.
