A truly sensational start to the MIMS this year with Bollywood actor John Abraham and rally legend Hannu Mikkola inaugurating the opening ceremony. The entrance to the exhibit this year is a delight for visitors, with the Mini Cooper parade lined up on the left featuring the Countryman, Mini Cooper S and the Convertible Cooper. The Audi enclave in the center features a stylish line up of the RS5, TT, S4, Q5 and Q7, and Honda’s Accord, City ad Brio lined up to the extreme right made an appealing entrance to intrigue the visitor as to what else is in store.
The Hyundai pavilion features a racy hatch, the Veloster, which has not yet made its way to Indian shores, only to keep the visitor’s curiosity meter ticking. The Veloster is Hyundai’s first ever Crossover Coupe featuring curvaceous styling blended into the Hyundai’s fluidic design language and an eye-catching chrome finished twin exhaust incorporated to the center of the rear bumper.
The Nissan 370Z at the Nissan stand is also drawing enthusiasts in big numbers at this years show. The 2012 ET ZigWheels Car of the year, the Renault Duster is a definite show stopper at the Renault pavilion featured alongside Renault’s most recent launch, the Scala sedan.
A British lady Lisa Baooanine visiting the show with her family said “We’ve been to shows before, this is a small one but a lot of variety under one roof. My husband and son wanted to buy the Skoda Yeti so we liked the Skoda stand where got to see the car.”
The Mahindra enclave has two crowd-pullers, the XUV500 in a Cheetah print avatar being one and the other being the limited edition Thar placed in its own uniquely designed corner. The Chevrolet pavilion features the newly launched Sail sedan alongside the 2012 ET ZigWheels Premium Hatch Back of the year, the Sail UVA.
A Fiat themed classic pavilion has a cute red 1957 Fiat 500 luring visitors with its chic look and petite frame. A couple of Harleys and customized Royal Enfields form an eye-catching parade to collectively promote the India Bike Week which takes place in Goa in the first week of February.
A young female visitor Mansi Nigam shared her experience saying “I have been here many times before but this time The Fiat Classic pavilion is something new and the Pulsar Stunt Mania is fascinating to watch”.
The ET ZigWheels 2012 Bike of the year, the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS is displayed in four colors at the Bajaj enclave along with the Discover 125. However, the most enthralling avatar of the Pulsar 200 NS at the show is the Pulsar Stunt Mania being performed by the GhostRyders team, which continues to pull Pulsar fans in massive numbers from all across the city.
Sarvesh Shinde another young first time visitor and bike enthusiast said “I liked the BMW bikes and the Harleys the most. I am also looking forward to catch a glimpse of the Pulsar Stunt Mania Show”.
And from the premium motorcycle space is the exotic range of BMW adventure motorcycles on display by Navneet Motors. Japanese giant Yamaha is also featuring its entire premium offering display including the smashing new Ray scooter, as well as its superbikes.
Karishni Singh a student visiting the show said “I have never been to a Motor Show before. I’m a total bike-lover therefore I loved the collection of bikes showcased specially the Harleys and BMW’s. Apart from that I liked the yacht and the customized cars in the show”.
The Motorsport Pavilion is a special addition to this year’s show featuring the Volkswagen Polo R-Cup car, the Mahindra XUV500 Rally spec Desert Storm, the Etios Racing Cup car, Honda One-make Series race bikes, a Rayo Racing Go-Kart and the Baja Interceptor by Sinhgad Academy of Engineering.
Car Makeover specialist from Mumbai Daljit Mehta of Dade Design and Bike stickering pros and Vinyl work specialists from Pune WrapMeUP have the maximum visitors getting enamored by some of their works on display.
Sahil Bhatkar, a student, who has visited the Mumbai International Motor Show several times before said “I liked the customized range of cars by Dade Design which was a different aspect of the show this time, and the customized sound systems in cars at the SoundFX stand”.
The showstopper of the entire event the DC Avanti Sports Car flanks the ZigWheels Pavilion, fitting the fact that we have been the first media personnel to feature it after having test-driven it. The 2013 Mumbai International Motor Show is definitely the place to be this weekend for all the action on two wheels or four.
