Vitara Brezza wins first round of National Super League Rally Championship 2016

The newly launched Vitara Brezza has secured two positions on the podium on debut during the first round of Maruti Suzuki National Super League Rally Championship 2016 held recently. Karthick Maruthi and his co-driver S.Shankar Anand driving a yellow and white Vitara Brezza achieved the pole position in the Uttarakhand Adventure Rally that was held in Dehradun, while the second position was secured by Jagmeet Gilla and his co-driver Chandan Sen with their Vitara Brezza. They were followed by Sachin Singh and his co-driver M Prakash at third, driving an S-Cross. 

The Uttarakhand Adventure rally was a three-day event that witnessed around 54 participants this year. The teams had to endure a distance of 900 kms in a Time Speed and Distance (TSD) format. The final stage of the rally was through Corbett, Auli and Dehradun, which was completed by all participants.  

Speaking on the completion of successful event, Vinay Pant, General Manager, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We are extremely pleased with the overwhelming enthusiasm shown by the participants and thankful to the Uttarakhand Government for their immense support in organizing this rally. This is an encouraging start to Maruti Suzuki’s motorsport calendar and the participant finishing all 6 rallies will be a true champion. Through platforms like MSNSRC we aim to provide a platform for many motorsport enthusiasts to participate and enjoy the thrill of rallying. Following the TSD format, the rally is closely monitored and encourages safe driving, a key focus area for Maruti Suzuki. I congratulate the winning team and invite all the participants to join the second leg that we will announce soon. A brand new Vitara Brezza will be award to the winner of the Maruti Suzuki National Super League Rally Championship 2016” 

The winning teams were bestowed with trophies and cash prices of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh for the first, second and third positions respectively. Also a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh was handed to the best performing women’s team.

The Maruti Suzuki National Super League Rally Championship consists of six rallies including Uttarakhand Rally, Backwaters Rally, 5th Mughal Rally, Deccan Rally, Gujarat Rally and Arunachal Rally. To qualify for the championship, one has to participate in all the six rallies.
