With various car manufacturers tasting success after launching India-specific products, it was about time that Volkswagen also fell in line. It will soon be launching the ‘Made in India’ Ameo and the carmaker, on Thursday, announced that its bookings will commence from May 12.
A source informed us that customers will be able to book the new sub-4 metre sedan from the German manufacturer at a token amount of Rs 25,000.
Most notably, Volkswagen will also be offering its prospective customers a hands-on experience at the Ameo through its 17-city roadshow. Scheduled to be held from May 12, the multi-city roadshow will continue through July 2, said a press release.
Apart from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, Volkswagen will also cover tier-II locations like Ludhiana, Nagpur and Pune.
Prospective customers will also be able to access details about the Ameo from the exclusive mobile application or the Volkswagen corporate website. The mobile application will be made available on android as well as iOS platforms, added the release.
The Volkswagen Ameo made its debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. It will be sandwiched between the Wolfsburg-based carmaker’s current offerings in India – the Polo and the Vento.
It will also sport similar power options like its cousins, with both the 1.2L 3-cyclinder MPI and 1.5L 4-cyclinder TDI engines on offer. The Volkswagen Ameo will be equipped with first in segment features like cruise control and rain sensing wipers along with static cornering lights.
It is expected to be priced at around Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh once launched in the country. In the sub-4 metre sedan segment, it will rub shoulders with domestic heavyweights like Maruti Suzuki DZire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire.
