Volkswagen had been working on a new car which was targeted for the Indian market from a long time. Based on the various spy images circling on the web, we all know the new offering is going to be a sub 4-metre compact sedan where VW has not yet entered with in the market. On the 20th itself the German manufacturer had disclosed the official name the car will come with. Today, we have received a complete rear section image of Volkswagen’s Ameo. VW’s compact sedan Ameo will make its official debut at the 2016 Auto Expo which kicks-offs in a fortnight from today.
The spied Ameo has very close resemblance to the nose design of the Polo apart from minor tweaks to the bumper. The side profile of the Ameo has bold and sleek lines which merge well with the shortened trunk lid. A slight lip spoiler can be observed on the trunk lid of the Volkswagen Ameo, which surely gives the rear a nice appeal. The design of the trunk has been borrowed from the Skoda Rapid which has the prominent slant lines on either side.
Speaking about the interior, we feel the Ameo will derive most of its feature’s from its elder sibling, Vento. Do expect the Ameo’s centre console to feature a touchscreen display having the Mirrorlink feature for smartphone connectivity. Seen in the spied image, the Ameo will be offered with beige upholstery and interior trim panel in black and beige combination.
On engine options provided under the hood, we expect the Ameo to be powered with a 1.2-litre MPI and TSI mated to a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG respectively which is used in the Polo. The DSG gearbox is likely to be offer only for the top-end variant. The 1.5-litre oil burner which currently performs its duties in the Polo and Vento will be seen in the Ameo as well.
Volkswagen will place the sub 4-metre compact sedan Ameo with a price tag which will place it between the Polo and Vento models. The Volkswagen Ameo will compete with the rivals of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent and the Figo Aspire in its segment.
