Volkswagen is reportedly preparing to launch the R-Line variant of its premium Tiguan SUV in India by April 2025. The Tiguan R-Line is expected to primarily feature body kit add-ons and cosmetic enhancements to differentiate it from the regular Tiguan currently on sale in India. The R-Line won’t bring any powertrain differences whatsoever, and it will continue with the existing engine setup. Here’s a detailed look at the updates this new trim could bring:
The international-spec VW Tiguan sports a bold R-Line bumper with integrated chrome accents and a distinctive honeycomb grille. The sharp LED matrix headlights, coupled with the illuminated VW logo and a continuous light strip, give it a sophisticated look.
The profile sits on 20-inch Leeds diamond-turned alloy wheels and has black roof rails, alongside body-coloured side cladding. You also find a sleek waistline and body-coloured ORVMs.
At the back, the R-Line features a larger roof spoiler, LED tail lamps with unique patterns, and a sporty bumper with integrated reflectors and chrome-finished dual exhaust tips.
The cabin gets premium materials, including leatherette upholstery with a black roof lining, brushed stainless-steel pedals, and an R-Line-specific multi-function steering wheel accentuating its sporty vibe. Some of this will likely be tweaked into the Indian version as well.
The Tiguan R-Line is expected to include features like a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ambient lighting with 30 colour options, keyless entry, heated front seats with massage functions, and adaptive chassis control for adjustable ride quality.
Safety features would include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX mounts, front and rear parking sensors and a reverse parking camera.
The Tiguan R-Line majorly being a cosmetic add-on trim will continue with VW Group’s tried and tested 2-litre turbo-petrol 4-cylinder engine, generating 143 PS and 340 Nm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 7-speed DSG and equipped with all-wheel drive.
The Tiguan R-Line is anticipated to debut in India around April 2025, with an estimated price of Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). The current Tiguan is priced at Rs 38.17 lakh (ex-showroom).
Its primary rivals include the Jeep Compass, Skoda Kodiaq, Citroen C5 Aircross and Hyundai Tucson.
