Volkswagen car owners visit VW plant at Chakan

A group of Volksawagen (VW) owners from Mumbai got an opportunity to visit the birth place of their cars in Pune. Volkswagen India’s manufacturing facility located in Chakan not only houses car production, but also welcomes car enthusiasts who are interested in knowing what goes into the production of these vehicles. By the end of 2013, the Volkswagen Pune plant had already welcomed over 25,000 visitors which included school children, college students, corporates, investors and this time their valued customers.

The Pune unit has been manufacturing cars since 2009 and has manufactured over 3,67,000 units till date.The production facility sprawls a good 575 acres and houses the entire automotive production process which includes press shop, body shop, paint shop and assembly of the cars. 

The Chakan plant has also adopted an eco-friendly Think Blue. Factory. Initiative. with a target of reducing the impact on environment due to manufacturing processes by 25 per cent. This initiative helps in reducing energy consumption, water consumption, CO2 emissions, waste generation and also volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Volkswagen began construction of this plant in 2007 with an initial investment of Rs 3,800 crore. The plant was built within 17 months, a record time across all manufacturing facilities worldwide.
