Volkswagen Group will be launching six new models in 2019, the carmaker has officially confirmed at its annual conference in Wolfsburg, Germany. The six new models include the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, Audi Q3 Sportback, an unnamed B segment SUV from VW and a replacement for the Bentley Flying Spur. The new range of models also include VW Bora and Lavidan - two electric vehicles that will be made specifically for the Chinese market.
The Group also revealed that there will be 15 new EV launches using the brand’s MEB (Modular Electrification Toolkit) platform. This move is line with VW’s aim to achieve sales of 22 million battery electric vehicles by 2025. These models include the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, the e-tron Sportback, the Volkswagen Buzz, Vizzion, Crozz and the Skoda Vision E.
At the ongoing Geneva Motor show, Audi also unveiled the new Q4 e-tron. It will be followed by the new Q2 e-tron set to debut at the Shanghai Motor Show. The all electric concepts are slated to get production models by the end of 2020. The luxury carmaker also unveiled an entire range of PHEVs which will be available in 2019 itself. Skoda too unveiled its new Vision iV crossover concept that is set to join the huge range of upcoming EVs from the VW Group.
The company aims that by 2040, 70 per cent of the new European market will be made of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and about 20 percent as plug-in EVs. Though VW has many exciting launches down the pipeline, there are no budget launches planned for the Indian market anytime soon. As we know, Skoda is leading the charge for VW Group in India under its “India 2020” initiative. The first all-new model that is expected to be launched under the new strategy will be a SUV (speculated to be based on the Kamiq) from Skoda, followed by the Volkswagen T-Cross. Later, the group will launch replacements for the Rapid and Vento as well. All these models will have heavy localisation, with Skoda currently working on localising the MQB-A0 platform for India.
