Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the all-electric ID.5, which is nothing but the SUV-coupe version of the ID.4. In this report, we will mainly be focussing on the changes made to the ID.5 over the ID.4 as both models are similar underneath the skin.
When viewed head-on, the ID.5 looks very similar to the ID.4, save for the redesigned bumper that looks a lot less cluttered. It’s at the side where the changes are more evident thanks to the SUV-coupe’s sloping roofline that cleanly flows and merges with the tailgate. The rear-end gets connected LED tail lamps and a slightly more aggressively styled bumper.
There are no differences on the inside as both models get the same clean and minimalistic dashboard. Even the user interface on the screens of the ID.4 and ID.5 remains similar save for the different vehicle branding in the respective models.
In terms of features, highlights include a 30-colour ambient lighting, a AR head-up display, and voice assistant based feature activation. It also comes with Travel Assist, which bundles adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant, lane departure warning, and blind spot warning. This utilises swarm data to ensure better functionality on the road.
The ID.5 will initially be offered in three variants: Pro, Pro Performance, and GTX. The first two are rear-wheel drive while the GTX will be just all-wheel drive. All three motors draw power from a 77kWh battery pack, which isn’t the case with the ID.4 that gets different battery packs for each variant.
