Got that swanky German car in your garage? Worried about your wallet once the warranty runs out? Well, fret not, Volkswagen has served up an add-on warranty that covers the vehicle for a total of seven years from the date of purchase. For the moment, the Polo / Ameo 1.0 variants, the Tiguan and the new Passat have been excluded from the add-on coverage.

If you’re wondering, the vehicle does NOT have to be brand new for you to avail the add-on warranty. As long as it is in any form of warranty (standard or extended), you can opt for the added safety. What’s more, even if your warranty has expired upto 15 days ago, you can still purchase the add-on coverage. That said, there are a few caveats:
Applicable to privately registered vehicles only
Vehicle odometer reading must be less than 1,25,000km
All scheduled maintenance must be carried out at Volkswagen authorised service centres
Part replacements (if any, under warranty or otherwise) must be carried out at a Volkswagen authorised centre
Vehicles out of extended warranty will be inspected before issuing add-on warranty
Maximum two ownership changes are allowed
Volkswagen clearly mentions that the coverage of the add-on warranty is a ‘curtailed down’ extension of the standard/extended warranty. That said, all major components of the drivetrain are covered, which gives us enough reason to recommend it. Notably, the additional warranty, is to be bought on an yearly basis, which should give owners some flexibility in case they want to sell their vehicle. Here’s a look at the costs:
