Volkswagen Passat Launched

Volkswagen has officially re-launched its flagship sedan in India after a gap of three years. The Volkswagen Passat is priced from Rs 29.99 lakh to 32.99 lakh, ex-showroom India and will take on the likes of the Honda Accord Hybrid, Toyota Camry and fellow VW group car, the Skoda Superb. The new Passat is only available in two variants, the Comfortline and the fully-loaded Highline.

The Passat follows the company's new design mantra of being understated with a hint of excitement. The Passat is much sleeker and angular than the car it replaces. Being 13mm lower and 12mm wider than before also exaggerates that long and low look. The use of LED dual-barrel headlamps with sleek LED DRLs, 4-slat chrome grille, single-slat chrome air dam also add to the premium look of the car.

The brushed aluminium lip from the front continues onto the side and forms a large band along the bottom edge of the doors. A strong shoulder line and a deep crease on the doors along with the large 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels (on the Highline variant) are the only eye-catching details on the side.

The rear design is rather sedated in comparison with relatively small all-LED taillamps and an old-school Audi-like decklid. The dual through-the-bumper tailpipes do look cool though.

Interior space has been improved thanks to a 75mm increase in wheelbase and better overall packaging. As with most customers of cars in this segment, rear seat space is of utmost importance.
