Volkswagen is finally launching the new Passat in India and it will be the manufacturer’s second launch of the year in India after the Tiguan. First showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, this is the eighth generation model of the sedan. The Passat will be offered in a single Highline variant only, which is expected to be priced at Rs 32 lakh.
Coming to the looks, the new Passat gets a streamlined design. At the front, a 3-slat grill is flanked by double barrel LED headlamps that also house the LED DRLs. On the side, a sharp shoulder line runs across the profile adding to its sleek stance. The rear looks quite similar to its predecessor with split LED tail lamps and dual exhaust setup.
The new Passat is 4767mm long, 1832mm wide and 1476mm tall which is 2mm shorter, 12mm wider and 13mm lower than its predecessor. The wheelbase on the new sedan has also grown by 75mm.
On the inside, the Passat is expected to draw cues from its Czech sibling, the Skoda Superb. It is expected to be equipped with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 3-zone automatic climate control and a panoramic sunroof. Safety features on offer may include 8 airbags, ABS, EBD and electronic differential lock.
The Passat is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 177PS of power, which will be sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox.
The new Passat will be taking on cars like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and the Skoda Superb.
