Volkswagen India in a proactive measure stopped deliveries of the Polo to immediate effect, just two days ago. Proximity to the ‘Dieselgate’ scandal stirred up quite a debate about the reason for the stop in deliveries but now we know that the issue is not related to the scandal that has rocked the German carmaker.
Volkswagen states that that a batch of handbrake cable retention levers in the rear brake liner might break under certain conditions according to the analysis performed by the company. 389 Polo units come under this batch of cars manufactured in September 2015 and preventive repair is underway before delivering the cars in this batch. Deliveries of unaffected Polo models will continue.
For customers who have already got their cars delivered, Volkswagen will contact them individually to get the part replaced.
The Polo is Volkswagen’s best-selling car and after introduction of the new 1.5-litre diesel engine, is averaging over 2,500 units a month. In the first six months of this calendar year, Volkswagen has sold almost 17,000 units.
