If you thought the current 1.2-litre TSI powerplant for Polo has more than enough oomph, think again as Volkswagen has announced the launch of the India bound Polo GTI in March, 2016. The additional ‘I’ to the ‘GT’ badge transforms the existing version to a Polo GT to a Polo on steroids. The Polo GTI will be powered by a 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine producing 180PS of power with 250Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Just to give you an idea of the power output, imagine a petrol engine pulled out from a premium segment vehicle like the Audi A4 or the Skoda Octavia and dropped in the compact hatch. Behind the wheel, one is bound to have a smile from ear to ear ever time the signal lights turn green. The Polo GTI is equipped with an upgraded brake system for stopping power. The front wheels will have ventilated brake discs with a diameter of 310 mm, and at the back 230 mm discs will be used.
Along with a powerful engine, the Polo GTI will be launched with a host of exterior and interior upgrades. Starting off with the exterior, the Polo GTI will receive a new front bumper with an aggressive look. The standard horizontal slit grille is replaced with a red strip radiator grille with GTI badging on the honeycomb structured design. The red line continues into the re-designed headlights, making the Polo GTI a looker. Air vents on the bumper continue the honeycomb design. The rear of the Polo GTI receives a new bumper sporting a rear diffuser and with dual exhaust tips. The rear spoiler has also been tweaked to suit the sharp lines of the GTI. The Polo GTI will also receive a sporty set of multi-spoke alloys which completes the look.
Stepping inside the GTI, the red accent continues its presence giving the Polo a very sporty feel. The seats receive a chequered fabric design giving the distinctive GTI feel. The steering wheel also gets red stitching and showcases the VW logo in the centre. The Polo GTI will also features a completely new infotainment system.
The Polo GTI will be available with a choice of 7 colours - Pure White, Flash Red and Black in Glossy finishes, metallic Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Blue Silk, and pearl effect Oryx White.
