Volkswagen has officially begun teasing its upcoming compact SUV/crossover, the T-Roc. Set to slot in below the Tiguan in most markets, the T-Roc will bolster the company's rather small SUV portfolio.
In a video showcasing the different departments involved in designing the T-Roc, Volkswagen has showcased some of the many processes that combine to create an all-new product.
Exterior designers claim that the T-Roc was designed on a clean sheet of paper while following the ethos of Volkswagen design - simplicity. The images of the car shown in the video and the 2014 T-Roc Concept give us a fairly good idea of how the SUV/crossover may look.
The face of the T-Roc borrows a lot from the concept but has obviously been toned down for production. The slim headlights with dual LED DRL strips, a hexagonal grille, the fog lamps placed high up in the bumper (but not shaped round like in the concept) etc. can be seen at the front.

From the side and the rear, the T-Roc looks very similar to the Audi Q2. The tail lamp design closely resembles the ones on the Tiguan. The T-Roc will feature a dual-tone colour theme on the outside with 'exciting' colours like Blue, Yellow and Orange used along with contrast coloured roofs.
Inside, the dashboard design will be chirpy like the recently showcased Polo hatchback. The dual-tone theme continues here, with parts of the dashboard and centre console painted in contrasting colours. The centre console features a segment which borrows its design from motorbike helmets, especially mimicking the chin area of one.
The upholstery, designers say, will feature textured materials which will make passengers feel like they are sitting on a very comfortable sofa. The grainy textured upholstery along with the seat cushions will make the T-Roc feel premium and comfortable even over longer journeys, it seems.
The Volkswagen T-Roc will feature a virtual cockpit instrument cluster and infotainment system combo which are becoming staple interior features across VW cars. It is expected that the system in the T-Roc will have features like the ability to swipe up certain data from the central infotainment screen to the instrument cluster like the new Polo hatchback.
More details on the Volkswagen T-Roc will be released closer to its official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show on August 23, 2017. It is not known if the T-Roc will be launched in India.
