The Volkswagen Tiguan is a comfortable SUV that comes with bucket loads of features and a capable engine-gearbox combination. Unfortunately, it didn’t set the sales chart on fire in India thanks to a high asking price of Rs 28.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Indians also expect their SUV to have an imposing presence while paying big and that’s another major drawback for the understated Tiguan. Volkswagen is looking to change that image by bringing in the bigger Tiguan Allspace at the Auto Expo 2020. The Allspace is the long wheelbase (LWB) version of the Tiguan that comes with a third row of seats. This Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner rival could replace the standard Tiguan and is expected to be powered by BS6-compliant powertrains.
Sizewise, the Tiguan Allspace is longer by 215mm and has a 110mm longer wheelbase. However, both models are almost the same in terms of width and height. Thanks to the extra row of seats, the Tiguan Allspace has a smaller 230-litre boot. But if you intend to use it a five-seater, the Allspace has a larger boot.

Visually, the Tiguan Allspace looks identical to the standard model. Even the interiors are similar, which is no bad thing. However, the UK-spec Tiguan Allspace comes with some premium features like connected car-tech, a head-up display and digital dials. Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, powered front seats, terrain modes and a panoramic sunroof has been carried over from the standard model. Safety features include a 360-degree camera, lane departure warning, park assist, blind spot detection, ABS with EBD and 6 airbags.
Under the hood, the UK-spec Tiguan Allspace comes with a 1.5-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TDI engine. While the TSI engine is available in a single 150PS/250Nm state of tune, the diesel engine can be had in three states of tune: 150PS/340Nm, 190PS/400Nm and 240PS/500Nm. For India, the Tiguan Allspace is expected to come with a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre TDI engine in either the 150PS or 190PS guise. It will come mated to a 7-speed DSG and will come with VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive as well.
The Tiguan Allspace is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020. When launched, expect it to be priced more than the standard model which starts from Rs 28.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Rivals for the Tiguan Allspace include the Skoda Kodiaq, Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Alturas G4.
