Volvo has launched a petrol powered version of the V40 Cross Country hatchback in India at a price of Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai, before octroi). The new V40 Cross Country will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class priced at Rs 26.5 lakh and the BMW 1 Series priced at Rs 22.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) in India. Although the Volvo V40CC is priced much higher than the BMW, one must remember that the Volvo does get a lot more features as standard equipment to justify the Rs 5 lakh difference.
The Volvo V40 Cross Country petrol will feature the T4 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine making 180PS of peak power and 240Nm of peak torque. The GTDi engine family in the V40 Cross Country features aluminum construction and direct injection technology that offers the best combination of performance and fuel economy. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a front-wheel-drive drivetrain.
Speaking on the occasion, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “We are excited to bring the petrol variant of V40 Cross Country to India. Buoyed by the growing acceptance of V40 Cross Country since June 2013 when we launched it here, we have now decided to bring in the petrol variant at a very competitive pricing in order to increase our reach further. I believe our customers would be enthralled with this new car.”
Apart from being safety oriented with a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating, the Volvo V40 Cross Country also features a host of preventive safety features such as Laser Assisted Automatic Braking, Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, Intelligent Driver Information Systems and directional headlights.
