Helmet is a safety gear which needs to be strapped properly to ensure a snug fit and with a sturdy chinstrap to prevent any chance of stretching or breaking. Vozz, an Australian based company has given the helmet design a new direction by completely omitting the need of a chinstrap itself. Access to wear helmet is from the rear which has a hinge on top which opens after pressing the locks on either side of the helmet bottom which swings opens the flap.
The Vozz helmet has seen a lot a development and testing since it concept in 2005. The most distinctive feature of the Vozz RS 1.0 is the rear head access. The helmet literally opens up in two parts which opens up around the hinge located on top. Access to slide the head inside is sufficient into the helmet and with only little pressure the two parts are combined into one via two locking mechanisms on either side. The manufacturer claims this can be done with ease in spite of wearing gloves and even spectacles.
With arrangement of flap providing access for the head, the RS 1.0 has a smaller opening on the bottom side thus allowing the helmet to avoid the need of restraint and cannot be unintentionally removed. The plus point of the ingenious design are several, the smaller opening allows for the helmet to hug the head with a closer fit. The chin area is covered significantly thus preventing air to enter from below, which prevents aerodynamic lift at higher speeds, reduced wind noise and lastly better insulation in the cold weather.
In terms of safety, it’s got DOT and ECE certification, and is certified for use in Australia and New Zealand. Vozz has provided a safety release mechanism, which with the help of a flat screw driver one can remove the two screws on either side of the hinge dislodging it. Further on pressing the two side locks, one can detach the front part of the helmet in few minutes without applying any pressure to the head of the rider.
With a hefty price tag of 888 dollars, the Vozz RS1.0 will be available for grabs on their official online store from 23 December onwards.
