Having gone through minor changes for the better part of the decade, it's a fact that Volkswagen's Polo, Ameo and Vento are getting a bit too long in the tooth. However, to freshen things up until their new cars arrive, VW has announced the launch of limited-run special edition versions of the above mentioned three models. Called the Black & White Edition, the special edition versions feature a host of cosmetic tweaks, including a black painted roof, body graphics, black ORVM covers, a rear spoiler, leatherette upholstery, 16-inch alloy wheels as well as ‘Black & White’ badging on the front fenders.
The Polo and Ameo Black & White Edition are based on the top-spec Highline Plus variant whereas the limited-run Vento special edition is based on the Highline trim. So while the Polo and Ameo Black and White edition get the same features as the top-spec variant of their regular versions, the Vento Black and White edition misses out on LED headlamps with auto-levelling, front side airbags and rear parking camera.
With the introduction of the new special edition, Volkswagen has also reintroduced the ‘Deep Black’ paint option for the Polo and the Vento. Meanwhile, the mechanicals of all three special edition models remain the same as their regular versions. Here’s a quick look at the powertrain options:
Diesel | Transmission | Power |
Petrol | Transmission | Power |

Polo Highline Plus |
1.5-litre TDI| 5MT | 90PS |
1 litre MPI | 5MT | 76PS |
Ameo Highline Plus |

1 litre MPI | 5MT | 76PS |
Vento Highline |
1.5-litre TDI | 5MT or 7AT | 110PS |
1.2-litre TSI | 7AT | 105PS 1.6-litre MPI | 5MT | 105PS |
Steffen Knapp, the director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said, “It is our constant endeavor to enhance our product offerings that are in-line with evolving consumer aspirations. The Polo and Vento have been strong contenders within their segments. Adding a dash of style, these enhanced feature offerings further make an attractive value proposition for our discerning customers. In turn giving them the power of choice within the Volkswagen product portfolio.”
At the start of the year, the carmaker also extended its warranty and roadside assistance (RSA) policy for its cars. All new VW cars now come with a 4-year/1,00,000km warranty compared to the 2-year/unlimited kilometre package that was offered before. VW also offers a 4-year RSA policy as standard compared to the 2-year policy before. You also get three free services within 15,000 kms when compared to 6-month/7,500km duration that was offered before.
The next-gen versions of the Polo and the Vento are likely to be launched by 2021. As mentioned before, they will be based on the new MQB-A0 IN platform and will be tailor made to suit Indian conditions and preferences. Before that, we have the India spec T-Cross SUV to look forward to. When launched, the T-Cross will rival the likes of the Skoda Kamiq, Hyundai Creta, Kia SP2i, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur.
