Is Tata's new platform hiding underneath the body?
TAMO C Cube

Tata Motors took us by surprise when it put up a couple of pictures of its latest concept, the C-Cube, on its Facebook page. The two-door hatch is being showcased at Future Decoded 2017, a digital transformation event hosted by Microsoft India. Notably, Tata Motors recently joined forces with the tech giant to develop connected car solutions.

The hatchback is based on the 'Product Transformation' theme that underscores the event. The brand claims the concept showcases its ‘advanced structural technology’. However, Tata has provided no specific details about the same. "Through the C-Cube, Tata Motors is showcasing its advanced structural technology which will enable the Company to bring forward breakthrough products from TAMO," read a press release issued by the manufacturer.

While there's no clear word as to what structural technology Tata is referring to, it is safe to assume it is of the high strength, low weight variety. Notably, the brand announced its intentions of reducing the number of platforms it uses to build cars from six to two during the launch of its sub-brand - TAMO. Both new platforms are expected to be modular in nature, supporting electrification and hybridization. It is highly likely that a prototype of one of the new platforms underpins the C-Cube.

The hatchback itself looks quite interesting and makes a slight departure from Tata Motor's clean 'Impact' design language. While it features the signature hexagonal detailing on the grille, there's very little otherwise that makes the C-Cube look like a run-of-the-mill Tata. The super short overhangs, big wheels and the two-door layout scream performance, and we wouldn't be surprised if this forms the base for a slightly sporty premium hatch from the manufacturer.
