Datsun’s most affordable offering is all set to get a bigger heart come July 26. The redi-GO will borrow the 1.0-litre engine from its sibling, the Renault Kwid. Bookings for the Redi Go 1.0 have already commenced for a token amount of Rs 10,000.

The biggest talking point is, of course, the engine, which develops a healthy 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. Claimed fuel efficiency stands at 22.5kmpl which is 0.5kmpl lower than the Kwid 1.0’s 23.01kmpl. For now, Datsun has confirmed that the redi-GO will feature a 5-speed manual transmission only. However, do not completely rule out the possibility of a redi-GO 1.0 AMT in the future.

What sets the redi-GO 1.0 apart, you ask? Not much to be honest. There’s a tiny badge on the boot that reads ‘1.0’, denoting the bigger engine. The 1.0-litre engine, as Renault have confirmed to us in the past, is a derivative of the 0.8-litre engine that powers the Kwid and the redi-GO.

The interiors now feature an all-black colour scheme. The grey-beige combo from the smaller engine’d sibling has been ditched. We’ve seen a similar interior theme in the limited edition redi-GO Sport. Datsun has simply gotten rid of the red accents for the 1.0.

In terms of features, the 1.0-litre variant is on par with its sibling. The top-spec S variant continues to feature a single-DIN audio system, manual air-conditioning, power steering and front power windows. The addition comes in the form of central locking and a remote key, which is again borrowed from the Kwid.

As far as variants are concerned, the 1.0-litre engine will be available in the top two trims, namely T (O) and S. Both these variants are specced identically in terms of available features, save for the addition of daytime running lamps and a driver side airbag that is reserved for the S grade only.

The bigger motor will command a premium of around Rs 30,000, which means prices for the entry-level hatchback will start around the Rs 3.5 lakh mark. For reference, the prices for the Alto K10 start at Rs 3.3 lakh, whereas the Renault Kwid 1.0 range starts at Rs 3.49 lakh.
